Hi there and Happy New Year! We are back. It's been a wild adventure since our last post in August, but all for the best. More on that soon, but wanted to say hello again and share a few pictures of the ladies.
We got our first egg on Thanksgiving morning from either Mayhem or DIO, the two black Australorps and now PJ and Lima are laying, too. Banti our little bantam Mottled Cochin, nests with Lima during all the bcawing as her buddy, but hasn't laid her own first egg yet. We just saw the first little egg of our friends' bantam Cheeks (a cute, tufty bantam Araucana), at 9 months, Banti's 6 now so it maybe a few months. It's so fun to share with our neat upstairs neighbors
Cats with feathers who happen to treat us with their amazing eggs.
We're in Portland now, with the hens in the front yard and the most plant and ag related jobs we could find, veggies and flowers in the ground at home and plans for intensive 'yard farming' and a building a little greenhouse out of windows and wood we've collected. Life has thrown us a number of scary curves in a short matter of months, but we've been finding our way forward and are really happy. So thankful for our wonderful family and friends!
Naomi is managing Concentrates Inc, an organic agriculture supply shop (check out the new blog there), and Neil is working with West Coast Plant, an organic indoor plant company. Puff and Jeff, our furries, are holding down the home front, they supervise the hen's safety and keep an eye on our resident flock of crows. And then there is daredevil Sammy, our local squirrel and a dedicated troublemaker... (not to be confused with 'Happy Squirrel' who is with our friend's daughter Madeline, finding her first egg Christmas morning)
We hope you are staying warm and cozy this winter.
Much love,
Naomi + Neil
